Kestrel Park in Santa Ynez, CA is one of those locations that had been on my eye since I first heard about it last year so when the opportunity came up to shoot there I knew I had to take it. It’s such a unique, exclusive location and it’s nothing short of a photographers dream. This is why we created this shoot as a workshop for photographers to come learn - it’s the perfect spot for teaching and creating content for other film photographers.
Not only is the venue visually stunning, but our couple really stole the show. Tyler and Zach were one of my very first couples that entrusted me to photograph their wedding in 2016. Another reason I love teaching workshops is that it allows me to reconnect with some of my past couples, catch up, and give them new images from a memorable day!
Like any of my shoots, there is always the task of finding a creative to execute a clear vision for consistency, colors that will look great on film, and elements that go with my brand. My friend, Maher, has been along for many shoots over the past few months and we definitely don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. He is singlehandedly the most consistent, talented artist, and stylist I have found in this industry and I’m honored to have him design all of my workshops. Since he designed our Kestrel Park workshop, I’ll turn it over to him.
“Planning this shoot with Alicia was one of the most creatively fulfilling things I’ve been able to do in a while, going back and forth between venues we finally decided that the backdrop of this editorial would be none other than Kestrel Park. It quickly became the inspiration for every detail of this shoot; I found myself pulling tones from the stones of the dovecote, taking into consideration the gardens that wrapped around grounds, and listening to the classic lines that guided your eyes throughout the venue.
When it came to styling the couple I knew less would be more, with Tyler’s beautiful features it wouldn't take much to have her star in this romantic story. Cheek to Cheek artistry wrapped her hair into an effortless updo while beauty was focused on the complection; natural and airy. The look was complete with an embellished gown from Netta BenShabu. Zachary stunned in a tailored gray suit from Friar, we decided against a tie to complement the effortlessness that was palatable throughout this day.
Nested by the stables was an intimate setting with regal table top details that gave some welcomed weight to the overall design while glowing candles flickered amongst dancing florals. Beautifully deckled paper by Isidore & Augustine welcomed guests to their seats and introduced them to the evening’s menu.
As the sun began to set we made it out to the rambling fields that have become synonymous with Santa Ynez. The sun trickled onto all the carefully selected details while Taylor and Zachary’s chemistry really came through and wrapped the shoot with a celebration of their love. It’s very difficult to decide on a favorite image from the day as the story was what made each shot special.”
I hope you enjoy the following collection of images. I must say, I think it’s my favorite workshop so far, let me know what you think too!
